Good morning sugar plums! I know it’s been a while since I wrote, and since I wrote about a movie from forever ago that I thought deserved your attention, this morning I am up unreasonably early (for someone who works mostly nights) to share with you my Irene survival plan.

I’m going to drink beer and watch Twister with my boyfriend, and the new Dr.Who and Torchwood, but the important one for this entry is Twister. First of all, flying cow. Secondly, who doesn’t love long, rolling pan shots of the Oklahoma landscape? No one, that’s who.
I used to watch this movie back in high school in science class, in the planetarium. Which no longer exists and that is sad because having a planetarium in your high school is pretty bad ass, according to nerds like myself. I was even in the astronomy club.
Anyway, Twister holds a lot of fond memories for me, not only do you get the sweet combo of Bill Paxton, Cary Elwes (swoon town!), and Phillip Seymour Hoffman, who is quite enjoyable as the weather loving kinda stoner guy in the storm chasing van thingy. It’s a sort of star-studded cast involving people who I am sure were moderately famous at the time.
If you’ve ever watched a show like Storm Chasers, and if you enjoy ham, you’ll probably dig this movie. I will watch pretty much anything with either of the previously named actors, but this weekend’s impending doom has really inspired me to relive the passable special effects (Super advanced at the time though!) and the wooden acting of Helen Hunt.
Get on Netflix, and assuming your power doesn’t go out, enjoy this semi-classic disaster film while your ride out the wrath of Irene.
