In addition to an anime series, comic books, toys, and novels, Xbox FPS Halo, is the latest property to have a live action series produced, follows in the path of some other heavy hitters in the gaming world. Last year Mortal Kombat, Skyrim, and Assasins Creed also received the web series treatment.
Master Chief will enter the third dimension in the 4th series Live-Action web series Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn this fall. Airing on both Machinima and Halo Waypoint the 15-minute shorts will follow a young cadet inspired by Master Chief, who is propelled to lead on the UNSC spacecraft.
The cast and director are still under wraps and details will be revealed at Comic-Con this summer. The original story will be offered in 5 shorts airing weekly. Microsoft is using this platform as ‘the next step’ in the franchise, which could possibly lead to a full-length feature after the idea was scrapped back in 2005.
The series coming out in the fall of 2012, will be aimed at current players, and fans of Machinima, is also out to bring in some fresh meat. In Variety, Matt McCloske, director of franchise business management at 343 Industries, said of the series that it’s not just a marketing piece. and that the with this Halo 4 series they Wanted to go way beyond that and transform this live-action exploration from advertising into a full standalone product that people will enjoy.
Frank OConnor, franchise development director at 343 Industries says ‘Demand grew more and more out of the two little vignettes we’d previously produced. OConnor also noted that they Needed a way to ensure there was a way for people to get onboard this universe without feeling intimidated. As a result, the Web series is an origins story that teaches you about a lot of different facets of the (Halo) universe.’
Am I the only one really hoping that the team over at RoosterTeeth dub over these Mystery Science 3000 style?
