Valve stays mum on new releases at E3.

This week Valve has confirmed it will not be making any product announcements at Electronic Entertainment Expo this year. For those of you waiting for some news on sequels, especially Half-Life 3, you’re going to have to wait a little bit longer.

In an email to ValveTime, reported by CVG, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell said, “We are not announcing anything at E3. Really. We are not announcing Half-Life 3 or Portal 3 or Left 4 Dead 3. We are going to be showing stuff everyone already knows about.

Regarding Valve’s silence on Half-Life 3, cofounder Gabe Newel had this to  say, “The problem is, we think that the twists and turns that were going through would probably drive people crazier than just being silent about it.”

Valve has often held a policy of not releasing games until they are finished to the last pixel, which is an attention to quality and detail that has earned them a solid following.

Despite Newell’s apprehension to get into the hardware market, he says, “If we (Valve) have to sell hardware we will. We have no reason to believe were any good at it; it’s more we think that we need to continue to have innovation.”

However, Valve created a buzz last month by posting several job listings, which fed into the whispers of a new gaming system, “Steam Box.” So far, Newell has been quiet about this particular project.

Isn’t anything running Steam, technically a “Steam Box”?

As long as they keep churning out hits like Portal 1&2, Left 4 Dead, and the Half-Life franchise, I think the general gaming public is willing to give Valve some leeway on making announcements about new game or sequels.
