Throwback Thursday: My last poker game with Kevin Smith

This image is from 3/20/2010, note I’m the only tool with my winnings fanned out, and I came in 5th. Regardless, this was an insanely fun evening.
I arrived in Jersey around 6pm and debated weather or not to join the other players for a pre game dinner at a local restauraunt, once I decided it was foolish to hang out alone for three hours I wandered over to the specified location and began searching for other players.
I soon found several guys laughing boistrously outside, I figured these might be the men I sought so I walked up to them, asked if they were here for the poker game and upon finiding that they were I introduced myself. Dinner was a lot of fun everyone I met was funny and very welcoming. I was very glad I decicded to go to dinner and meet all these interesting people, even Ming joined us eventually.
Once dinner concluded we made our way over to where the game was being held, Kevin was as per usual, running late. We waited around, some of us huddled up in the back parking lot smoking, as we did, Kevin showed up with his wife Jen, daughter Harley, and mother in tow.
There was a few minutes of hello’s among the staff, players and family, then we got our table assignments.  Out of 33 participants, this time I was the only female. We started the game, no limit Texas Hold’em, tournament style around 9pm.
Around 10pm I had taken down most of my table of 10 other players. By midnight, I had taken out most of the new group that had been placed at the table with me. One player was very annoyed with my not playing ‘correctly’ which I found really amusing. Winning is winning.
At 1am I was moved to the final table to play with Kevin and 5 other players. About 10 minutes after 1, Kevin’s wife Jen Schwalbach showed up. she sat with me as there was an open seat to my left, and gave morale support ie; loud whispering that I shouldn’t let the guys intimidate me because I was the only girl (Spoiler: I didn’t).
By1:30am we went from 6 to 5, and quickly one by one we all fell. I went out 5th, taken out by Kevin, who went out 4th, and then the last guys went out in rapid succession until there was a winner. Kevin shook hands, signed stuff, took pictures with us. I got many hugs from his wife who was very sweet, even if she did bum a bunch of my smokes.
Afterwards there were cash games to be played, but Kevin was heading out early (last time we played he stayed until 5 or 6 in the morning). So I rallied myself and drove home from jersey grabbing some coffee along the way. I won my buy in back, and then some and got to hold onto the money I’d taken for the cash game. I grabbed a coffee on my way, got home around 4am and slept blissfully.
