Last night I went to see CAKE after work. Things couldn’t have worked out better, I got there right around 6:15, got an Americano, and sat outside the café people watching until the doors opened at 7pm.

I always try to get to shows early so I can find my seat etc. I went to see CAKE by myself because they were sold out to the point of only having to have single tickets left. I found my seat, which, if you know anything about the Keswick, was super old, sorta busted, and uncomfortable, but I figured I’d just deal with it. However, I got bumped up to a seat in the second row! I could have reached out and slapped John McCrea.
On top of that, the person I got sat next to was … oh I’m terrible, I don’t remember his name, but he was very nice and also there by himself, and a big fan, so together we made fun of the house music which played prior to CAKE’s coming on stage. Some of those songs included one from the jungle book, California love (the extended remix), the name game, an aria from what I think was Don Giovanni, something about making sure your children don’t grow up to be transsexuals, and other equally baffling selections. He was a very nice single serving friend.

After the show, I went out and waited by the tour bus with my new single serving concert friend, and got to meet the band, and get autographs on my program. I was tired and sore, but so worth it. I am pretty sure my car got me home on the power of my joy alone. I probably could have powered a small country with my level of glee last night. Even though I have to work today I am going to try and coast through it on the remnants of bliss from last night.
