If you say I aim too high from down below…

The last decent picture of us together, we need to make a new one!
I have finally gotten over my upper respiratory infection, only to break out in the worst hives I’ve ever had in the history of me being itchy and whiny.

Despite this, and having worked a 9 hour shift on 3 hours of sleep, I picked up some new shoes, stopped off at home for a bit, and sorted my self out.

Then went against my natural instincts and ventured into the city after work. It of course took a half hour longer than I indended due to other people’s inability to drive in light rain and trying to find parking, but I did not let that discourage me.
I met up for a lady date with my friend Micah, who with our conflicting schedules, exchanged birthmas gifts from last year, haha. We went to Tria at 12th and Spruce. It was cozy, and ambiantly lit, a good place to go on a real date, but served our purposes just as well.

Micah reccomended the reisling she was having, and could not have made a better suggestion. I’d never had tapas before, so I wasn’t sure what to get or how much to order. We ended up getting 5 small plates to share. Every last bite was delicious.
We had a plate of sliced Italian meats served with sweet red pepper, pickled onion mostarda and spicy garlic oil, a truffled mushroom bruschetta with Fontina, a pistachio herbed Ricotta bruschetta with lavender honey, a truffled mushroom, Spinach and Brie de Nangis Panino, and some Piave Vacchio cheese served with honeycomb. Everything went quite nicely with the Riesling, and I had a glass of passionberry iced tea (unsweetened) which was also really lovely.

It’s also good food for a catch up date, because you can chat while you eat and it doesn’t get in the way of anything. It’s been sometime since Micah and I checked in with each other and found out what was going on. It was a really nice time, and it was really, really something I needed.
A bit of spoiling, and a bit of girl talk with a friend I haven’t seen in months. I ended up getting a ticket because my meter ran out and I can honestly say I had such a good time that I will gladly pay it. I’ve never been less annoyed over a ticket in my life.
After I get done work today, I’m off to the gym to set up my membership while they’re still running a good cheap special. The goal is 3-4 times a week with strength training and cardio. I’ve lost 12 lbs so far just by being more careful about my eating  but it’s time to start making the effort.

It’s going to be a long, uncomfortable, occasionally frustrating  road to get to a point where I’m a lot healthier, but it’s worth it and right now, that’s what I am going to focus on, taking care of myself, and bettering myself. Rather than moping around doing nothing, I am going to be constructive with my time.
When I got home, I spent some time with Steph, talking about school and college and how I was really proud of the progress she’s making, both socially and academically. I tried to remind her that there are times where the people you love are going to follow through on the stupid things you know they shouldn’t do, and no amount of talking, yelling, begging or pleading will change that.

Sometimes you have to step back, let life teach them those lessons and try not to be a smug tool when they come to you seeking solace after the fact. If she can manage to learn that, she’ll be a lot better off in general. Like me, she knows this, but it’s not going to stop her trying to help her friends out, which is another aspect to be proud of if nothing else.

Tomorrow I’m taking Cat and Steph to Q Mart, to shop and people watch, then dying hair with Mary when we get home, probably with beers. I am excite. Every time I don’t want to, or don’t feel like doing something I am going to make myself do it. That’s what I’ve been doing for a few weeks now, and so far it’s been working out extraordinarily well. I’m good, I’m gone.
