Gaikai has big news for E3! The cloud-based gaming firm has let on that there will be some major announcements at E3 this year and is inviting journalists to be on hand for the reveal of their next big thing. Gaikai claims they will be “Changing the future of video games.”

At CES, Gaikai CPO Nanea Reeves said: Not all of the current console makers will have one more generation.” This may be a hint about whats to come at E3. This coincides with rumors that Sony will be picking up either Gaikai or OnLive. Could this be one of the revelations Gaikai will let loose on the journalists they’ve invited to a special E3 event?

This may be a move to strengthen Sonys cloud-based gaming plans. Sony has been set to reveal a partnership with a major cloud gaming firm at E3, but it has also been said a complete acquisition was on the table. We don’t know yet if this will relate to consoles or TVs. Gaikai is an especially strong candidate having already teamed up with LG smart TVs.

OnLive isn’t out of the running though, the VP of engineering Joe Bentley has said: “that the firm had held discussions with Sony and Microsoft representatives about bringing its offering to consoles.” With the PS3s high cost, its sat steadily in the #3 spot for major consoles. We could be looking at a cloud-based console for the PlayStation4.

I would personally love to see the addition of cloud-based gaming to any console, I like the potential for the flexibility it would provide, and of course, more variety which is always welcome.

Well find out what Sonys been working on Monday night at 6pm PST (9pm EST / Tuesday 2AM BST.) Some of our boys from the Pixel Perfect team will be at E3 covering stories as they break, so be sure to check in here to find out more information as we get it.
