Microsoft offers some Minecraft players Full Refunds

While it’s exciting to see an indie favorite like Minecraft get the jump to a popular console, it’s already having issues, in that the split screen feature is restricted to consumers with HD V with HDMI input on which to view and play the game. I like the idea of being able to gather friends to play together, but I don’t appreciate the HD restriction.

Many Xbox 360 subscribers will have the ability to use the split screen functionality, however, the HDTV issue was not initially listed on the pre-sale information in the marketplace. Microsoft has offered full refunds, and to avoid any further confusion, they’ve updated the listing in the marketplace to reflect the split screen issue requirement.

Depending on who answers the phone, a player may not be able to get a partial refund. Even if they bought the game pre-market place update, when refunds are refused, the CSR’s will cite the fact that a prompt comes up in the game letting the player know that they can use the split screen functions only with HD. (I would give you a refund, were I answering the phones.)

It’s not a perfect solution, but admitting their mistake and offering refunds is a good start. Taking the time and effort to fine tune their release notes before putting games up for sale in the marketplace, could also help avoid these situations in the future. Once there’s been a clear issue however, it would be nice to see a uniform policy go into effect.

The prompt is great but prior to the marketplace update, that was the only warning given. Once you’ve already purchased the game, it’s a bit late Microsoft. Don’t you think?
